Hobbit release date shifts Pi

June 6th, 2011 by Julie · No Comments · HighBridge at the Movies

Last week, titles and release dates were announced for the two Hobbit movies being filmed by Peter Jackson in New Zealand. The first film is called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and will open on December 14, 2012. The second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again is scheduled to open on December 13, 2013.

Based on that news, the release date for Ang Lee’s film adaptation of Life of Pi has shifted back a week, to December 21, 2012, the better to take advantage of holiday moviegoing crowds, as well as getting out of the Hobbit’s way.

In other Hobbit news,¬†Orlando Bloom, a veteran of the Lord of the Rings films, is set to return as Legolas in The Hobbit. Legolas doesn’t actually appear in the book, but Peter Jackson knows what he’s doing, right?
