Economic crisis solved: Just cancel CAR TALK funding

March 18th, 2011 by Frank Randall · Author/Narrator News

We assume this will be fuel for the Car Talk guys’ banter in the coming weeks: Anthony Weiner (D-NY) chiding his colleagues on the House floor about the defunding of NPR as a significant aspect of financial reform of federal spending. “We finally found out our problem, we discovered a target that we can all agree on: it’s these guys!” a Huffington Post article quotes Weiner as saying, while pointing to a picture of our beloved Tappet Brothers.

You can watch a video of Weiner’s speech below:

Happy National Pig Day

March 1st, 2011 by Kay Weiss · Uncategorized

Pig Did ItPig Comes to DinnerPig Goes to Hog HeavenYes, it’s true, Babe and Charlotte, there really is a National Pig Day—and this is it.

HighBridge has got its own favorite pig to celebrate on this day: Joseph Caldwell’s “troublesome pig” at the heart of his Pig Trilogy, available for the first time on audio.

The first volume, The Pig Did It, was a Washington Post Book World Best Book when originally published, and now Chris Patton relates these whimsical and ironic Irish-American tales, with some American slang, some Irish lilt, and an occasional snort (excerpts available by following the links on the cover images).

We can’t take credit for this excellent video/interview with Joseph Caldwell. It was produced by Open Road Media, publishers of the e-book edition of the stories. But we find it very nicely done and entertaining, and thought we’d share it with you on this day of Porcine Celebration.

March 1st, 2011 by Emily · Author/Narrator News

We came across these fascinating video interviews with crime writer Deon Meyer and wanted to share them with you.  The first of these three interviews focuses on Meyer’s life-long love of stories and his journey to finally becoming a story-teller himself.  In the second, Meyer reflects on the importance of his characters’ “humanness.” In the third he reflects on his writing process as a whole.

Deon Meyer’s novels all take place in the context of his native South Africa and have been translated into many different languages. One of his titles, “Thirteen Hours,” was listed as a #1 bestseller in South Africa.  It was also a Deadly Pleasures Magazine Best British Novel of 2010.

The audio versions of his novels “Blood Safari” and “Thirteen Hours,” are available now from Highbridge.
